Product Description:
What’s Included with the 98 Custom: Black Tippmann 98 Custom ACT Marker. 8 1/2 inch Quick Thread stone honed high performance barrel. Ammo Hopper. Wrenches. Oil. Manual. Squeegee. One Year Warranty from Tippmann. Description of the 98: The 98 Custom is our entry level, fully customizable marker. The main feature is the ease of customizing the marker. The 98 custom combines all the great features of the model 98 with the ability to accept The Flatline Barrel System, The Response Trigger System, the E-grip for newer markers and the Comp-Air Low Pressure System. All of these Tippmann Systems can be installed with same tools that you use to disassemble the marker. We are sure the 98 custom is the most customizable marker you can buy.
ACT is a patent pending design to help eliminate ball chopping and ensure consistent performance. Using a new technology that has the front and rear bolt working independently of each other, ACT virtually eliminates ball chopping and improves ball accuracy with less barrel cleaning. And unlike other anti chop systems, this system maintains ball velocity shot after shot and does not have to be re-cocked if the anti chop technology had to be engaged. Technical Information: Model - Tippmann 98 Custom, Caliber .68, Semi-Automatic, 150+ Magazine Capacity, Better Accuracy & Greater Distance, Shoots up to 11 Balls Per Second, Weight without tank 2.9lbs, Effective Range 150+ Feet.
Amazon.com Product Description:
There are ordinary paintball markers, and then there are paintball markers that act as extensions of your personality. The Tippmann 98 Custom Basic fits squarely in the latter category. The fully customizable semiautomatic marker is compatible with Tippmann’s accessory arsenal, including the Flatline barrel system, the sniper barrels, the double trigger kit, the Response trigger system, the collapsible stock, and the rear-cocking system, among many others. Want to create a paintball marker that represents your style, your game, and your creativity? Look no further. Plus, it’s easy to install a new accessory, as all you need is the same tools you use to take the marker apart.
The Tippmann 98 Custom is made of die-cast aluminum with an extra-sturdy finish. More significantly, the marker boasts Tippmann’s Anti-Chop Technology (A.C.T.), a system consisting of a rear bolt, front bolt, and linkage arm with movements dictated by the location of a paintball in the chamber prior to firing.
If a paintball is fed correctly, the system’s front bolt and rear bolt travel together–connected by the linkage arm–to fire the ball. However, if a ball is lodged inside the chamber incorrectly, the system moves the bolts independently until the lodged ball falls into position. Once the ball is back in place, the marker cycles itself to discharge the ball at normal velocity. Not only does the A.C.T. system prevent stalls and “blowback” (a sudden release of trapped air into the hopper), but it also maintains shot velocity, as the cycle speed never changes. It’s a must for the serious paintball enthusiast.
Additional features include a quick-release feeder elbow, a removable front grip (for adding an expansion chamber and vertical kits), and a 200-round hopper. The Tippmann 98 Custom Basic is fully compatible with CO2, compressed air, or nitrogen and comes with a marker maintenance pack with a barrel sleeve, oil, wrenches, cleaning cable, and spare tank O-ring.

Tippmann 98 Custom by Tyler
First of all; I am writing this review on my mother’s amazon because my account won’t let me, and secondly, this isn’t one of these reviews where i scream into your ear until you undoubtedly would like to kill yourself.
I got into paintball about a year ago, and began with the use of a spyder compact. After becoming sufficently hooked to the sport of paintballing, I traveled to wal-mart, and dropped the 150+ dollars for a Tippmann 98 Custom. At the time, the price tag seemed rather large, and for a while the gun had little use other than burning holes in my pockets.
Anyways, later I tested this gun out, and found out exactly what it was, a very solid, and durable, well shooting gun. In woodball, this gun in my opinion has no equal, (other than breaking a few hundred dollars,) and for a casual player, (such as myself,) this gun is just perfect, and is rather cheap.
The gun itself comes with the standard little booklet and a small tube of oil, and is pretty straight-forward, and is very standard in its look. But if you are the kind of person that lives to carry around a sweet, but standard firing gun, “limitless” mods and “upgrades” are available to you. From making it look like an M16, to increasing stability and accuracy, there are “limitless” possibilities. (The parenthases around the limitless are there for the fact that nothing is limitless, and the front grip is unremoveable, save the use of a table saw, and the loss of 3-5 fingers.)
Overall, this is a solid well firing gun, and with a few improvements to the stock barrel, and the addition of a stock, (to make it look sweet really,) this gun becomes a very eligable candidate for best all around gun for its price.
Ps. I’m not quite sure this gun could take you to hell and back as a previous reviewer stated, but the gun would definetly come out in better shape than you would.
Great, but one thing you might not be aware of… by C. Hager
I might be the only person who didn’t already know this, but the co2 cannister is shipped completely empty. Thinking about it, I should have known, but it just didn’t occur to me. So if you’re getting this for someone as a b-day gift, you might want to pick up a second canister locally so he/she doesn’t have to wait a day or two to try it out. Kinda added a slight air of disappointment to what was otherwise a nice birthday gift for my son. Probably more on my part, but still….
Hands down the best paintball marker made. by Dina Giles
In my opinion, this is the very best paintball marker. I cannot think of any cons about this gun. But there are plenty of pros.
As you may know its a constant battle between Tippmann and Spyder. Tippmann is popular for reliabilaty and Spyder is popular for performance. However, I have never seen an electronic Spyder work for more than a day. Tippmann by far beats Spyder in reliabilaty. My Tippmann has never failed me and people often say it can’t be used in speedball, however, the last speedball game I played in, I shot 5 out of 12 people …hmmmm that sounds like it works very well for speedball to me. People say its a noob gun because it shoots slow. Well it shoots 8 bps (balls per second) out of the box. Thats faster than some Spyder markers. In fact the Tippmann 98 custom is the most upgradeable marker in the paintball market. For instance, you can add a e-trigger to the 98 to make it shoot much faster, but you can call it a newbie gun if you want to.
If someone ever tells me that it is a newbie gun, they seem to change their mind after I lite ‘em up on the field. So, if you want a marker for an inexpensive price, heck, if you want a marker that will last more than a day, this is, by far, the gun to buy.
Handsdown the most reliable marker I have owned by Michael J. Westbrook
It may not shoot as fast as other markers but with few modifications like a responce trigger or egrip it can keep up with them. Also an upgraded hopper will help. It is one of the most reliable markers I have owned. When friends new to paintball ask what marker I would suggest for them to buy, my first thought is the reliability and ease of maintaining a tippmann 98.
